Price drop alerts for ecommerce that protect your margin

Price drop alerts for ecommerce tell shoppers when an item they viewed or left in the cart gets cheaper. CartAbandon sends them only to contacts with consent, only when the drop passes a threshold you set, and never in a way that breaks your margin rules. Your sale reaches people who already showed interest.

Your sale should reach the people who wanted the item

When you lower a price, the people most likely to buy are the ones who already looked at that product or left it in a cart. Many of them stopped because of price. A broad sale email reaches your whole list. A price drop alert reaches the shoppers for whom this exact change matters.

For a shopper, it is a useful message. They do not have to check back every day. For you, it turns a price change into sales from warm leads, without adding an extra discount on top.

Alerts fire when a watched item crosses your threshold

CartAbandon watches the price of items your known contacts viewed or carted. When a price falls, it checks a few rules before sending anything.

  1. Was the item viewed or carted by a known contact? Anonymous visitors are never messaged.
  2. Does the contact have consent for the channel? Email, SMS, WhatsApp and web push each need their own consent.
  3. Is the drop big enough? You set a threshold, for example 10 percent or 15 USD. A 1 USD change does not trigger an alert.
  4. Is the item in stock? An alert for a sold-out item only frustrates people. Stock level is checked first.
  5. Is the shopper inside frequency caps and outside quiet hours? If not, the alert waits or is skipped.

If all checks pass, the shopper gets a short message with the product, the old and new price, and a link back.

Setting What it controls Example
Threshold Minimum drop that triggers an alert 10 percent or more
Lookback How recently the item was viewed or carted Last 30 days
Channels Which channels may carry the alert Email and web push
Caps Max alerts per shopper per week 2
Exclusions Products or collections that never alert Clearance items

Margin guardrails stop alerts from stacking discounts

A price drop already lowers your margin. Adding a coupon on top can push an order below cost. CartAbandon prevents that.

  • No extra offer by default. The lower price is the offer.
  • Minimum margin rule. If the new price is close to your minimum margin, no further discount is allowed, even if another flow would normally add one.
  • Max discount cap. Any combined reduction stays within your max discount.
  • No-discount lists. Sale items and chosen collections can be excluded from extra offers.
  • Unique single-use codes. If you do allow an offer, each code is single use, so it cannot spread.

If a shopper has a cart open with that item, the Recovery Brain treats the price drop as part of the cart recovery. It may send the drop as the reason to come back, instead of adding a separate discount. Every decision is logged with a plain-English reason under "Why this message". See how decisions are made on the Recovery Brain page.

An example price drop alert

This is an illustrative example with assumed numbers, not a result from a real store.

A returning customer added a 180 USD espresso grinder to the cart last week and left. She has email consent. The store lowers the grinder to 150 USD, a drop above the 10 percent threshold. CartAbandon sends one email the next morning in her time zone: the grinder, the new price, and a link to her cart. No coupon is added, because the price drop is the offer and the store's minimum margin is close.

Only consented contacts get a price drop alert

Price drop alerts are marketing messages, so the same consent rules apply as for every other flow.

  • Consent source and timestamp saved per contact and channel
  • One-click unsubscribe in every email
  • STOP keyword for SMS and opt-out for WhatsApp
  • Quiet hours by the recipient's time zone
  • Rules built for GDPR, TCPA, CAN-SPAM and CASL

Shoppers can also sign up for a price alert on a product page, the same way they sign up for back in stock alerts. That signup records consent for the channel they pick.

Price drop alerts fit stores that change prices often

These alerts bring the most value when your prices move: seasonal sales, clearance of old colors, price matching, or bundles that lower the unit price. If your prices never change, the flow stays quiet and costs nothing. It works alongside abandoned cart recovery, so a shopper never gets both a cart reminder and a price alert for the same item on the same day.

Price drop alerts start on Growth

Price drop and back in stock alerts are included from Growth at 149 USD per month, or 74 USD per month billed yearly. Growth also includes Recovery Brain per-cart decisions, dynamic discounts with margin guardrails and A/B testing of messages and delays. Prices are flat, with no percent of recovered revenue and no per-message bill.

FAQ

Questions about price drop alerts for ecommerce

What are price drop alerts for ecommerce?

They are messages that tell a shopper when an item they viewed or left in the cart becomes cheaper. CartAbandon sends them only to known contacts with consent for that channel.

Who gets a price drop alert?

Known contacts who viewed or carted the item within your lookback window, have consent for the channel, and are within your frequency caps. Anonymous visitors never get one.

Can I set a minimum price drop?

Yes. You set a threshold as a percent or a fixed amount. Smaller changes do not trigger alerts.

Will price drop alerts add a coupon on top of the lower price?

Not by default. The lower price is the offer. If you allow an extra offer, it stays within your max discount and minimum margin rules.

What if the item is out of stock?

The alert is held. If the shopper also signed up for a back in stock alert, they hear about the restock and the new price together.
