Omnisend alternative for abandoned cart recovery with SMS included
If you want an Omnisend alternative for abandoned cart recovery, CartAbandon is a recovery-only platform for Shopify, WooCommerce and Magento stores. Plans start at 49 USD per month, or 24 USD per month billed yearly, with SMS and WhatsApp included up to plan limits and an AI decision on every cart. Omnisend prices by contacts, and since May 4, 2026 new accounts can only buy SMS on its Pro plan, as a separate add-on.
CartAbandon vs Omnisend at a glance
Omnisend is an email and SMS marketing platform for ecommerce: newsletters, signup forms, segments and automations, including an abandoned cart workflow. CartAbandon does one job. It wins back revenue you already almost had, across browse, cart, checkout, declined cards, back in stock and price drops.

What changes for Omnisend Pro users on October 26, 2026
Omnisend says its Legacy Pro plan, the one that bundled SMS credits equal to the plan price, retires on October 26, 2026. Those accounts move to the current Pro plan, where SMS is no longer bundled and an SMS credits subscription may be added on top. Omnisend mentions temporary price protection when the move would raise your total by more than 20 percent.
If abandoned cart texts are a big share of your Omnisend SMS spend, this is a good moment to price the same volume on a plan where texts are part of the fee. A store sending 1 000 recovery texts a month pays roughly 9 to 10 USD a month in Omnisend SMS credits at its smallest US rate tier (the SMS subscription starts at 10 USD), on top of a Pro plan that grows with the list. On CartAbandon Growth, those 1 000 texts sit inside the 149 USD plan (74 USD billed yearly), next to 1 000 WhatsApp messages.
When Omnisend is the better choice
Omnisend is a solid, widely used platform, and for some stores it is the right answer. Keep it, or pick it, when:
- You need newsletters and campaigns. Product launches, weekly emails and seasonal sales all live in Omnisend. CartAbandon does not send campaigns.
- Your list is small. The free plan covers 250 contacts and 500 emails a month, and Standard is cheap at low contact counts.
- You sell on BigCommerce, Wix or another platform we do not connect to. CartAbandon works with Shopify, WooCommerce and Magento only.
- One tool for all marketing matters more than recovery results. Fewer logins and one bill can be worth more than a better recovery rate.
Many stores land in the middle: Omnisend keeps the newsletter, and CartAbandon takes over abandoned cart, checkout and declined card flows. If you do that, switch the Omnisend abandoned cart workflow off so no shopper gets two reminders.
Where CartAbandon works differently
A decision before every message
In Omnisend you build the workflow: wait time, channel, split, discount. Every abandoner on that path gets the same steps. CartAbandon reads each cart first: customer type, cart value, past discount use, consent per channel, stock and time zone. A returning buyer with a 480 USD cart may get one text in 20 minutes with no coupon. A first visit with a 70 USD cart may get an email in four hours with 10 percent off. The AI cart recovery decision engine logs a plain-English reason for each choice.
A price that does not climb with your list
Contact-based pricing means your bill grows as signup forms do their job, even when recovery volume stays flat. CartAbandon plans are sized by recovered-cart attempts, so a bigger newsletter list does not change what you pay for recovery.
Texts and WhatsApp inside the plan
Every CartAbandon plan includes SMS, and Growth and up include WhatsApp for shoppers who opted in. You do not buy credits or watch a balance. See how consent works on the abandoned cart text and SMS page.
Declined cards treated as a payment problem
A shopper whose card was declined does not need a coupon. On Growth and up, CartAbandon sends a payment update link matched to the decline code. Read more about dunning software for failed payment recovery.
Omnisend pricing compared with CartAbandon plans
Omnisend's plan prices start at 16 USD (Standard) and 59 USD (Pro) per month and rise with billable contacts. On Pro, SMS is a separate subscription billed per text. Omnisend also offers 30 percent off the first three months if you pay that period upfront on a first paid plan.
CartAbandon has four flat plans. The price does not move with your list or your sales inside a plan.
| CartAbandon plan | Billed monthly | Billed yearly, per month | Recovered-cart attempts | SMS included | WhatsApp included |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 49 USD | 24 USD | 300 | 250 | Not included |
| Growth | 149 USD | 74 USD | 1 500 | 1 000 | 1 000 |
| Scale | 399 USD | 199 USD | 6 000 | 4 000 | 4 000 |
| Plus | 999 USD | 499 USD | 25 000 | 15 000 | 15 000 |
The fair comparison is cost per recovered order, not plan price. Take the share of your Omnisend bill and SMS credits that goes to abandoned cart workflows, divide it by the orders those workflows brought back, then run our estimate for the same store.
How to move abandoned cart recovery off Omnisend
- Note your baseline. Export the abandoned cart workflow report from Omnisend: sent, clicked and placed orders for the last 30 days.
- Connect your store. Approve the Shopify app install, add a WooCommerce REST API key or paste a Magento integration token. Guides are on the Shopify abandoned cart app, WooCommerce and Magento pages.
- Set your guardrails. Maximum discount, minimum margin, quiet hours and the customers who never get a code.
- Review the drafts. The AI writes emails and texts in your brand voice. Edit anything, then switch flows on.
- Pause the Omnisend cart and checkout workflows the same day. Keep newsletters, welcome series and post-purchase flows running in Omnisend if you like them.
CartAbandon reads the consent your store already holds and records the source and time per contact and channel, so nobody who opted out of texts starts getting them.
Stores that usually switch, and stores that should stay
| Your situation | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify, WooCommerce or Magento store paying for SMS credits on top of Pro | CartAbandon | Texts included in a flat plan |
| Store where most recovered revenue comes from large or repeat carts | CartAbandon | No coupon where the cart would close anyway |
| Store with many declined cards | CartAbandon | Decline-code recovery in the same plan |
| Store that sends weekly newsletters and launches | Omnisend, or both | Campaigns are Omnisend's core |
| Store with under 250 contacts | Omnisend | Free plan covers it |
| Store on BigCommerce or Wix | Omnisend | We do not connect to those platforms |

Questions about omnisend alternative
What is a good alternative to Omnisend for abandoned carts?
For Shopify, WooCommerce and Magento stores, CartAbandon is a recovery-only alternative with flat plans from 49 USD per month, SMS included and WhatsApp from Growth. It decides per cart whether a discount is needed. If you also need newsletters, keep Omnisend for campaigns and use CartAbandon for recovery.
How much does Omnisend cost?
Omnisend's help center lists a free plan for 250 contacts, Standard from 16 USD per month and Pro from 59 USD per month, with prices rising by billable contacts. SMS is a separate subscription on Pro, with US rates from 0.009 USD per text at the smallest tier down to 0.007 USD at the largest.
Does Omnisend include SMS?
Not for new Standard accounts. Since May 4, 2026, Omnisend sells SMS only as an add-on subscription on Pro. Legacy Pro accounts with bundled SMS credits move to the current Pro plan on October 26, 2026, where credits are no longer bundled.
Is Omnisend cheaper than Klaviyo?
Both price by contacts, and Omnisend usually lists lower starting prices. For recovery only, neither is the cheapest per recovered order once SMS is added. We compare Klaviyo separately on our Klaviyo alternative page.
Can I use CartAbandon and Omnisend together?
Yes, and many stores do. Keep Omnisend for newsletters, forms and welcome flows, and turn off its abandoned cart and checkout workflows so CartAbandon handles recovery. A shopper should never get two reminders for the same cart.
Does CartAbandon have a free plan like Omnisend?
No. CartAbandon starts with a free revenue estimate for your store, then you pick a paid plan in checkout. Yearly billing costs half of the monthly price.
